Ranked

The ladder

Five tiers, a hundred and fifty points apart through the live band — roughly a dozen net results between one and the next. A season runs ninety days and ends by pulling every rating a third of the way back to the start, so the order survives and the standing is re-earned.

What moves it

A pair, never a match
One seed played from both seats, averaged. Nothing is written until both legs are in, because a single match on a generated map is not a measurement.
Placements move hard
The first ten results carry double weight. A new rating is a guess, and a guess should be allowed to be corrected quickly.
A forfeit settles everything
Walking out after losing the first leg settles the whole pair against you. Otherwise leaving would be a free way never to be rated for it.
Idle ratings drift
After a fortnight — a holiday, not an absence — a rating drifts back four points a day, and never below Molten.

What does not

Your House
Guilds are social. The moment membership moves a rating, the ladder is about politics rather than play.
Your Livery
Cosmetics cannot reach the board. Two matches identical except for Livery produce a byte-identical recording, and an invariant checks it on every build.
Your Gold
Gold buys variance and appearance — a re-draw, a colour. There is no price at which it buys a stronger Boon.
The clock on your machine
Every daily thing is measured on the server. Changing a device clock or a timezone gains exactly nothing.

The board above reads live from the game server at /api/ladder. Players still in placements are not listed: a rating four results old is mostly still the guess it started as, and a board of guesses is how a ladder gets botted. Every figure quoted on this site comes from a passing run — 216 invariants and 465 tests at the time of writing.
